Topic #83.5: Name Game

April 4, 2011

Topic #83 (Brought to you by Plinky.com):

How did you get your name?

Who chose it, and why?

My mother chose my name.

Vanida (VAH-ni-dah) is Siamese for “Cup of Beauty”.  It also means “woman”.  My mother had a class mate in high school who has this name.  I have yet to meet another person who has the same name.

Johanne (YO-hanh) is after Johann Strauss, Jr., who is the “King of the Waltz”.  Johann is also a derivative of the name, John, which means: “God is gracious”.  My mother loves to dance and this composer is famous for his waltzes, particularly the “Blue Danube”.

Only within the last year have I embraced being called by my first name and I know it’s because of the healing I have received from the Lord in the last 10 years.  I feel like I have grown into my name.  I still go by my nickname, but I actually like to be called by my real name.
