Lenten Journey So Far
It is AMAZING how significant the impact of giving up television, movies and internet social networking has been this Lent so far. I have found more time to take care of things that are right in front of me. I have been praying for people and sending out snail mail. It’s my little contribution to the USPS and helping them stay in business. 😉
I deliberately call people now and take the time to appreciate the sound of their voices. I enjoy being with others in their presence. I also find myself itching to find distractions to fill the void that my Lenten sacrifices had previously filled. Some of the entertainment was good for my soul, but I can also say that a lot of it was not. 😦
As I continue to recalibrate my senses to love people and use the resources at my fingertips, I keep finding more opportunities to grow in holiness and humility. This weekend will be a test of my ability to stay in the present moment as I join thousands of Catholics at L.A. Congress. If you see me by any chance, high five me or hug me! If not, I’ll see you in the Eucharist.
