Vanida Johanne is my formal name, but not one that I go by commonly.  I usually go by V.J., which is my family’s nickname for me.  I bet they didn’t think it would be the professional name folks would know me by.  In recent years I’ve found myself growing into my given name.  Vanida (VAH-nee-dah) is Siamese for “Cup of Beauty” and Johanne (YO-hanh) means “God is gracious” and taken from my mother’s favorite composer, Johann Strauss, Jr. a.k.a. “The King of Waltz”.  So there you have the long winded answer to what V.J. stands for.

I’m a work in progress constantly seeking grace, which is why I chose the title for this blog.  It was originally the title for my music myspace that a couple of friends put together for me a few years ago that is unfortunately not active anymore. I’m an external processor, which basically means that things don’t tend to make sense in my head alone.  My thoughts need to be expressed externally, be it verbally or on paper or in this case, by blog…so this is my chance to make sense of the wonders within this cranium of mine.  Thanks for stopping by and visiting.  Feel free to drop a comment as you wish.  Peace.

    Hello Vanida —

It is a very small world. I found your blog by typing “constantly seeking grace” into Google, and read most of it before I clicked on “About” … and realized who you were. We haven’t met personally, but I’ve known of you for a long time. I’m a parishioner at St. Brigid Parish in Pacific Beach, and we have a few common friends. I also sing periodically with the folk groups at St. Francis Chapel at the Mission — my husband plays drums for them.

How amazing. I think your blog is wonderful, and your thoughts so beautifully expressed. I too am “constantly seeking grace” and who would have thought I would find such an eloquent fellow seeker practically in my own backyard.

I do hope we meet in person at some point, but I’m so grateful to have found you here.

Thanks, Helen! I hope that we do get to meet sometime. I’m the CYM at the Mission, so I’m pretty sure we’ve seen each other in passing. The name came up when some friends of mine started up a music MySpace for me on my 30th birthday. That didn’t last too long, but the name stuck. It’s nice to know that others read my blog. I pray that the Holy Spirit truly speaks through the words I get to write. Until we meet in person, I’ll see you in the Eucharist! Merry Christmas!

      in Him,

      Vanida (V.J.)
